Technische Informatik - winter term 05/06

overview

This lecture is part of the 'Universitärer Lehrverbund Informatik' (ULI) and virtually available. More information can be obtained from www-site of ULI

description The focus of this course is on the architecture and design of computers, from gate level to application level. After giving an overview on the functioning of computers (history, overview of computers, modellnig, CPU, memory, interaction between components, representation of characters and numbers), the main focus of part 1 of the course is an introduction in circuit design. We will consider Boolean functions and their representations, e.g. Boolean expressions, Boolean circuits, and decision diagrams. Additionally, fundamental methods of logic synthesis, e.g. normal forms and the method of Quine-McCluskey, will be handled. A special section is dedicated to computer arithmetics (number representation, addition, multiplication, design of an ALU). Finally, Tristate-driver, memory elements and busses will be introduced.

The aquired knowledge of part 1 will then be used in part 2 of the course to design a small modular computer.
