Eingebettete Systeme I - Winter Term 2009/10

overview

description Educational objective: The students should learn to understand the specific characteristics of embedded systems. They should learn the elementary concepts for designing such systems and the criteria for partitioning in HW/SW. They will be able to evaluate the specific restrictions which arise as a result of the physical laws of the surrounding system, and learn to include these specifically in the design process. Finally they should learn how specific methods from the software technology on the one hand and the hardware design on the other hand can be combined to an efficient design method, which considers the requirements concerning size, response times, costs and energy consumption of the resulting overall system.

Description: Embedded systems are considered to be the key application of Information Technology in the coming years and, like the name already suggests, are systems in which data processing is embedded into an environment where it deals with complex regulation, control, or data processing tasks. The lecture is about fundamental concepts of modeling and designing embedded systems. For example, it is about specification languages and methods for embedded systems (e.g. Statecharts, petri networks, VHDL), mapping of specifications onto processes, hardware of embedded systems as well as hardware/software codesign.
