Kyoto and Nara
I worked in an institute called NAIST. Kyoto is the ancient
capital of Japan reasonably close to NAIST (2 hours), so I
have been there several times. Nara is an even more ancient
capital of Japan even closer to NAIST, so I have been there
a few times, too.
